Follow the Flowchart of Dems’ Health Plan

by Todd Baldridge on July 16, 2009

With the government takeover of banks, insurance companies, and car companies, next up is health care. It’s not an ideological or partisan issue. Health care affects every American.Organizational Chart of House Dems' Health Plan

We all know someone affected in some way by heart disease, cancer, diabetes, influenza and even accidental injuries — just to name a few, sometimes serious, medical problems that require a physician’s care or hospitalization. Health care issues affect Republican families, too!

To hear President Obama claim that Republicans want to do nothing about health care is disingenuous, misleading and none other than liberal politics as usual. He won’t stop saying it, and millions of Americans are still believing it, though poll numbers show support is fading for Democratic health care reform.

Polls Show Withering Support

A recent Zogby poll reveals dwindling support for the health care overhaul introduced this week by House Democrats. Half of all respondents opposed the plan, while only 42 percent supported it.

Those surveyed also turned a cold shoulder to:

  • Single-payer plans
  • A public health insurance option
  • A tax on the rich to cover the uninsured
  • Mandatory insurance for everyone

A Rasmussen poll this week showed similar results with 49 percent opposed and 46 percent somewhat in favor — a flip-flop from two weeks ago when 50 percent were for the plan and 45 percent against it.

Coverage Denied

While we all agree the uninsured need coverage, is it worth destroying the entire health care system in the process?

Under the Democrat’s health care plan, your coverage will be denied. The disastrous legislation will create $600 billion in new taxes and take away $400 billion in benefits to welfare recipients. If Democrats in Congress believe in it so strongly, we should put them on the same plan as every U.S. citizen, effectively telling them: “If you’re gonna pass it, you’re gonna take it.”

An influx of 50 million new health care recipients will create undue strain on a system struggling to keep up, reeling from a shortage of doctors and nurses. Expect to wait weeks for your medical test results. Instead of a government-centered plan, what we need is a patient-centered plan.

Statement From RNC Chairman

Here’s what RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement July 14:RNC Chairman Michael Steele

“The Democrats’ priorities for health care reform are now clear: a government-run system financed on the backs of Americans and small businesses with higher taxes. We can’t afford another one of President Obama’s grand experiments that will impact the health care of millions of Americans and their families.

The Democrats’ government-run plan won’t reduce health care costs, it won’t allow Americans to keep their insurance or doctors, and it won’t promote competition. But it will result in a government takeover where bureaucrats determine what health care treatments Americans receive, if they can receive them at all. That’s not the reform Americans deserve.”
